American Maid cotton is not dyed. It is grown in these colors! The Dark Brown and Dark Green are blended with Natural to get the light colors. The green and brown fibers darken when the fabric is washed, especially in warm alkaline water, so adding a little baking soda to the wash aids this process. The green and brown fibers used in American Maid are grown in the New Mexico using sustainable farming practices. The White is Cleaner Cotton, grown in California as a part of the Sustainable Cotton Project. This fiber is produced without the use of the 13 most toxic chemicals commonly used to grow cotton, using non-GMO seed, and depending on biologically-based pest management rather than pesticides.
We stock two weights of American Maid: the 8/2 weight shown here and the 3/2 weight. The 8/2 weight makes beautiful, soft towels and lightweight baby blankets.
